2006 Five Year Plan Questions for 2006-2010

 

          1.       Briefly describe any new purchases, deletions, and/or hardware upgrades you have made, from July 2004 to now, from your hardware inventory of PC’s, servers, mid-range, and/or mainframes. 

·        Project any planned purchases by year for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

                 If you did not supply information in 2004 please supply:

·        Total numbers of PC’s that you currently have within the department;

·        PC’s per Brand (e.g. 13 Gateway desktop PCs.); and

·        Age of your PCS (e.g. 22 @ four years old, 12 @ three years old, etc.)

 

2.      Briefly describe any new purchases, deletions, and/or software upgrades you have made, from July 2004 to now, from your software inventory of word processing, spreadsheets, database, etc. 

·        Project any planned purchases by year, for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

                           If you did not supply information in 2004 supply:

·        Total number of software licenses you currently have within the department;

·        What level/version the software is at for each (e.g. Office XP twelve licenses, Windows XP ten licenses, Windows2000 two licenses, etc.).

·        If volume discounts for purchases were available, would you participate? 

·        How many licenses would you need in the next twelve months?  Itemize by brand (e.g., five Microsoft Windows XP licenses; ten Norton anti-virus: etc.)

 

3.      Identify any current connectivity you have to other Hamilton County department computers and other organizations, other than through the WAN.

 

·        Do you have modems attached to your network or attached to PCs on your network?

·        Does any employee have remote access to your office for work other than through County Telecom Dial-up or VPN?

·        Does your department have any wireless networks in place, including home systems where the employee either dials in or connects through the VPN Concentrator?  Please describe in general terms the security you use for the wireless network.


 

4.      Identify any new applications created in the last year.  Discuss their benefits both tangible and intangible.

·        Do countywide and agency-level information technology systems provide information that adequately supports mangers’ needs and strategic goals.

·        Identify how your most recent information technology (IT) applications provide information that adequately supports mangers’ goals within your department, within County government, and/or for the public.

·        Identify how your near future IT plans will provide information that adequately supports mangers’ needs and strategic goals within your department, within the county, and/or for the public customers.

 

5.      Identify the budget objective(s) within your current budget program that you would like to apply information technology to in the near future (2006-2007) and the intermediate future (2008-2010).  Include any new information technologies that would be used to provide enhanced service to Hamilton County citizens.   Relate to existing budget program objectives, if applicable.

 

 

6.            Identify what current IT expertise you have on staff.

·        What training is planned for your staff to keep them experts on technologies that you plan to implement in the next five years?

·        Will projected technologies require additional staff?

·        Fewer staff?

·        Do you use consultants? Please identify:

o       Who they are

o       What applications they are assisting you with

o       Will these tasks be permanently outsourced?

o       Explain their support, development and/or management roles.

·        How will projected technologies affect your use of consultants?

 


 

7.            Identify if you have disaster recovery and/or business continuity plans in place.

·        If not, do you plan to have one by the end of the 2005? Or do you plan to ask for funding for accomplishing this task in 2006? 

·        If you do, when was it created?

·        Do you have an off-site disaster recovery and/or business continuity location identified?

·        Do you have plans:

o       If the building is damaged?

o       If a floor is damaged?

o       If a computer system is damaged or left unusable by any action of man or nature?

·        Please elaborate on your answers to your plan to:

o       Notify personnel to report to the site

o       Notify personnel to report to an off-site location

o       Notify the public of the incident and give updates

o       Notify a vendor to supply replacement equipment

o       Retrieve off-site backup tapes/disks/documentation

o       Coordinate with other public or private firms?

 

 

8.            Please identify any future activities you plan to do on your website.  Please elaborate on improvements for the public and internal county customers.

·        If you could take your most public intense work function and place it on the web what would that function be?  (i.e., e-government applications)

·        For any future development will you:

o       Do your own coding;

o       Use RCC services;

o       Hire a vendor;

o       Other, please explain.

·        Has your web site complied with ADA visually impaired guidelines of Section 508?

o       If not do you plan on compliance in 2005? Or, in 2006? 2007?
