·         A Year in the Making:  Thursday, October 4, 2001 marks the one year anniversary of the official start of construction on Great American Ball Park.  Although demolition and site preparation began as early as July 2000, actual construction began in October with mass excavation of the site.  One year later, the shell of the ball park has begun to take shape.  Just 550 days remain until Opening Day 2003.

·         Concrete Work Continues:  Crews continue to make notable progress on the jobsite, particularly with the ongoing concrete work.  Late this summer crews completed the last of the pile caps and the underground foundation work.  Wilhelm Concrete Company is now working on the final pieces of the floodwall along the southern perimeter of the site.  Once completed the entire work area will be enclosed in protective walls.

Concrete Work in Progress

o        Floors have been poured beneath the left field seating structure.

o        Elevated decks for parking, seating structures and concourse areas continue to be poured daily.

o        Precast concrete seating structures are being installed along the third base line.

o        The left field “field wall” has been installed.  This wall reaches from the seating area to the playing surface and will house the out-of-town scoreboard.

·         Community Displays:  The final architectural model display of the summer is scheduled for this Sunday, September 30, at the Reds vs. Expos game.  Weather permitting, the model will be on display on the plaza level outside Cinergy Field near gate 3 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.

The traveling display remains on view at the PNC/Chemed building downtown through Wednesday, October 3.
