Steel Work Progresses: Over the next few months,
the most recognizable progress on Great American Ball Park construction to
the naked eye will be the ongoing structural steel installation.
Crews completed the framework for the scoreboard last month, and
that structure now dominates the skyline above the work site.
This structure is only the beginning.
Steel will be installed in layers, with each “pass” building on
the previous layer in a counterclockwise progression. Pass

The View from the
Cheap Seats: One
of the best places to view construction of the new ball park is still the
red seats in Cinergy Field. This
weekend, fans will get their last chance to view the site from this angle
as the Reds close out the 2001 season against the Phillies.
For now, fans can see the distinct shape of a ball yard coming into
focus. The scoreboard
framework and lowest level of seating structures and field wall are in
place in left field, steel is going up along the third base line, and
construction of the floodwall is coming to an end. When
fans return in April there will be a much different view.
The structural steel skeleton and precast concrete seating support
structures will be in place, obstructing the view of much of the site.
