Construction
Update: Workers
continue to make notable progress on all aspects of the ball park.
Following are a few activities currently underway: °
Workers continue to enclose internal
spaces as they build more and more masonry block walls. °
Crews are erecting steel around the
right field side of the construction site. Workers are installing pre-cast
concrete seating risers in unison with the steel installation. °
The large truss connecting Great
American Ball Park to the Firstar Center has been decked and is ready for
workers to begin placing concrete for flooring. This is the largest open
span truss on the project and weighs some 80 tons at installation. This
passageway will provide pedestrian access to the Firstar Center plaza and
serve as an entrance for police cars, ambulances and maintenance vehicles.
This corner of the ball park plaza also features an elevator and stairwell
for pedestrians walking to the ball park and Firstar Center. |

What’s in a Name: As
work on the Great American Ball Park progresses and media coverage
intensifies, it is worth noting the proper name of the specially designed
break in the structure that is along the north side of the ball park This
structure should be referred to as The
Gap not
“the notch.” The Gap will open up the ball park to the city, and was
designed to allow fans in the upper deck to sit closer to the field. Fun Fact:
The term “gap” or “alley” is a baseball term referring to the section of the outfield between the
outfielders.
A
ball hit to this area is called a "gapper." |
