Play-By-Play

·        Construction Update – Workers continue to make notable progress on all aspects of the ball park. Following are a few activities currently underway:

°         Roofing materials are now being added to the administration building. The building is still on target for completion in October.

°         The second phase of light tower work is now underway. Workers are hanging attachment features in Area 2.

°         The main scoreboard is nearing the topping out stage. Workers hope to have the majority of the scoreboard completed by this week.

°         The ball park’s first ramp is being poured. Concrete workers are pouring the ramp adjacent to left field, along the third base side of the ball park.

°         The first pass of steel in the lower seating level is nearing completion. Crews plan to finish the major erection portion this week.

·        Reds Hall of Fame – The announcement to enshrine Crosley Field era star John “Bid” McPhee and Riverfront Stadium era ace Don Gullett received a great deal of praise from fans and writers throughout baseball. The Cincinnati Reds will induct these players during the July 21 home game against the New York Mets. The Reds also announced that fans attending the season finale at Cinergy Field on September 22 will receive a commemorative lanyard, ticket holder and card.

Fun Fact: Fans flocked to Avenue Grounds over 125 years ago to see their beloved Cincinnati Red Stockings compete. After moving to Redland Field (what eventually evolved into Crosley Field) and into the American Association in 1882, fans were charged 25 cents at the gate! This was considered much cheaper than the 50 cents that the rival National League charged their fans. Please note that this was also an era where pitchers threw underhanded, fielders played without gloves and batters needed eight balls to be awarded a walk.
