Play-By-Play

Water, Water Everywhere … With the extreme weather conditions, anyone on or around the Great American Ball Park jobsite this week surely noticed the swollen Ohio River just beyond the floodwall.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, OH, the river level initially peaked at 44.6 feet on Wednesday, February 19 at approximately 2:00 p.m. before beginning to recede. This is well below the official flood stage of 52.0 feet and considerably lower than the 70.4-foot level that it would take to overflow the ballpark floodwall. The Ohio River has reached the 70-foot mark only three times in recorded history: 1937 (79.9 feet), 1884 (71.1 feet) and 1773 (76 feet).

As the snow and ice continue to accumulate, the river will once again be on the rise. The adverse weather conditions have not interfered with the construction schedule.
