Great American Ball Park

Fans Are Invited to Explore New Facility |
|
| February 28, 2003 – On Saturday, March 22 and
Sunday, March 23, Cincinnati’s newest landmark will officially open its
doors for the first time to the public. That weekend, baseball fans and
Hamilton County taxpayers alike are invited to explore and enjoy
Cincinnati’s new baseball facility during the Great American Ball Park
Open House presented by RE/MAX.
“The Open House truly embodies the spirit of Great American Ball Park,” said John S. Dowlin, president, Hamilton County Board of Commissioners. “This ball park belongs to the community. They asked for it, preferred the Riverfront location and are paying for it.” Hamilton County Commissioner Phil Heimlich echoed the sentiment. “We are delighted to open the doors and let everyone experience the excitement of Great American Ball Park,” said commissioner Heimlich. During the open house, guests will see a variety of exciting areas including Crosley Terrace, multiple levels of the seating bowl, the Batter’s Eye facility, bullpen overlooks and dugouts, and the Reds’ new home run feature which will be activated during the ball park’s dedication ceremony. Fans also will have access to areas that normally will be closed to the public, including the Reds’ Clubhouse, batting tunnels and training facilities. The Cincinnati Reds are thrilled to work with RE/MAX, the presenting sponsor for the Great American Ball Park Open House. “We’re very pleased to have RE/MAX on board for the Open House,” said Cincinnati Reds Chief Operating Officer John Allen. “Their contribution is a welcome addition to the event. And who better to have as a presenting sponsor for an Open House than one of the region’s leading real estate companies?” The gates to Great American Ball Park will open Saturday, March 22 at 8:30 a.m. The public is welcome to attend a formal dedication ceremony that will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. The dedication ceremony will include representatives from Hamilton County, Cincinnati Reds, and a special recognition of the team who built the ball park. Reds television announcer and former pitcher, Chris Welsh, will host the ceremony. “The dedication salutes those hard-working individuals who helped build this remarkable facility, and who made sure, along with us, that this project was completed both on time and on budget,” said Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune. “That team deserves to be highlighted and celebrated, too.” The Saturday tours will follow the dedication ceremony with the first tour beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the last tour of the day starting at 6:30 p.m. Tours will begin again at noon on Sunday, March 23, and the last tour will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tours are self-guided and fans may take as much time as they like to visit the new ball park. Concession stands will be open for fan convenience. Hamilton County also will provide free parking at County-owned riverfront lots to accommodate those attending the dedication and open house. The Open House weekend will be free and open to everyone. Volunteers
will be on hand throughout the ball park to provide directions, point out
the great features of the ball park and answer questions. |
