Judge Cheryl Grant

Judge Cheryl D. Grant is a member of the Hamilton County Municipal Court with continuous service since 1997.  Judge Grant graduated from Withrow High School, Cincinnati, Ohio; received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1966, majoring in Sociology and Anthropology; and received her Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law in 1973.  Judge Grant received various academic scholarships to assist her in achieving her degrees in higher education.

Judge Grant attended the National Judiciary College, Reno Nevada; the George Mason University School of Law, Law and Economic Center Institute for Judges, Arlington, Virginia; Law and Economic Institutes, Washington, D.C; and Searle Law and Economic Institutes for Judges, Northwestern University, and other education sites. And, she attends the Supreme Ohio Judiciary College, Columbus, Ohio.

The Supreme Court of Ohio licensed Judge Grant to practice law in 1973.  The Chief Justice Thomas Moyer appointed her to the Ohio Supreme Court Commission on Technology and the Courts, and the Advisory Committee on Interpreter Services, and she is currently serving in both capacities.  She is the Chairperson of the Hamilton County Municipal Court Committee on Technology.

Prior to attending law school, Cheryl Grant served as a social worker for the Memorial Community Center and as a Cincinnati Police Officer.  Her employment experiences since law school are as follows: Reginald Heber Smith Fellow; Congressional Aide to former Congressman Thomas Luken; Assistant Professor of Business Law, University of Cincinnati College of Business; Law Director, City of Lincoln Heights, Ohio; Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio; the first Chief Investigator of the Office of Municipal Investigation (OMI), City of Cincinnati; Assistant Public Defender, Hamilton County; Assistant Attorney General, State of Ohio and owner C. D. Grant & Associates, Attorney of Law.

Judge Grant has been active in various civic and social organizations including: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; Black Career Women, Inc.; Elisha Chapter – Ohio Eastern Stars and PHA; NAACP and the Zion Baptist Church.  In addition, she holds membership in the Ohio Judicial Conference, Ohio Bar Association, the American Judges Association, and the Ohio Association of Municipal and County Judges.

Judge Cheryl Grant is listed in Who’s Who in Black America and has received recognition as a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement; the Living Legend Award, University of Cincinnati and Harriet Beecher Stowe Historical Cultural Association’s African American Millennium Award and many other recognitions and honors.  She is active in the education and music ministries of her church, Zion Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ohio

Early in her career, Cincinnati Mayor Bobbie Sterne appointed Judge Grant to the Mayor’s Task Force on Police Community Relations.  She was also appointed by then Governor Rhodes to the Ohio Youth Advisory Board.  She has served as president of the Memorial Community Center and as a member of the University of Cincinnati Foundation Board.   Judge Grant also traveled to China as a member of the People to People national delegation of the U.S. Criminal Justice professionals to consult with the Chinese government in the area of criminal justice.
