Judge David Stockdale

Hamilton County Municipal Court

   

David C. Stockdale was first elected to the Hamilton County Municipal Court from the Third Judicial District in 1995, and was reelected in 1999 and 2005. The third district includes Springfield Township, the municipalities of Mt. Healthy, North College Hill, Greenhills, Forest Park, Lincoln Heights, Lockland, Arlington Heights, Golf Manor, Amberley Village, Silverton and Wyoming, and precincts in the Cincinnati neighborhoods of Roselawn, College Hill, Hartwell and Carthage.

 

A native of Canton, Ohio, Judge Stockdale earned his bachelor’s degree in 1972 and his master’s degree in 1973 from Ohio University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1976 he received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati, where he was an editor of the Law Review.

 

Following graduation from law school, Judge Stockdale was employed in the Canton City Prosecutor’s office. He entered private practice in Cincinnati in 1976 with Aronoff & Rosen, Co. L.P.A., later Aronoff, Rosen & Stockdale, and remained with that firm until his appointment to the court by the governor in December of 1994.

 

During his 18 years in private practice, Judge Stockdale served the people of Mt. Healthy as Law Director (1978-79), City Prosecutor (1981), Council President (1982-83), Mayor (1984-87) and Member of City Council (1988). In 1991 he was appointed by the governor to the Ohio Industrial Commission’s Dayton Regional Board of Review. The regional board was responsible for deciding appeals from the workers’ compensation decisions of the commission’s district hearing officers in southwestern Ohio. He became acting chairman of the board in 1992, and was appointed by the governor as chairman in 1993.

 

Judge Stockdale was elected by the other judges of the court in 1999 and again in 2000 as administrative and presiding judge. He currently serves as chair of the court’s Civil Law and Legislative committees, and as a member of the Criminal and Traffic Law committee. He has also served as co-convener of the Hamilton County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council. He is a member of the Cincinnati and Ohio State bar associations, the American Judges Association, the Ohio Judicial Conference, the Ohio Jury Management Association and the Association of Municipal/County Judges of Ohio.

 

Judge Stockdale is a long-time volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, having served on the Dan Beard Council Board of Directors as a district chairman. He is currently Scoutmaster of a Boy Scout troop in Wyoming, where he and his family have resided since 1988.
