Through the town meeting, residents,
yes you, the resident, will get the chance to prioritize the issues
that concern you and plan their implementation. The key for the
success of Community
COMPASS, Hamilton County's first comprehensive plan in more than a
generation, is gathering 1,000 residents at Music Hall on January 12
for small group discussions. This is where COMPASS needs your help. COMPASS is asking you to go out, tell your friends and family members about Community COMPASS and encourage them to sign-up for the Countywide Town Meeting. How many times have you heard a co-worker or a neighbor complain about something related to the community? Maybe they complained about traffic. Maybe someone keeps talking about all the new land that is being developed to build new buildings when there are existing under-utilized buildings scattered across the county that could be renovated for use. Maybe your neighbor keeps talking about the state of race relations. Maybe you have some great ideas or just want to make your voice heard. Saturday's town meeting is your chance!

After everything that
has happened to the United States in the past few months, we have realized
how important public involvement is. Becoming involved in changing
Hamilton County’s future for the better is a wonderful, easy way to show
that you care about your community and the people who reside within it. We
have set up the time, the date and the place all you have to do is show up
and share your voice. Please come to the Countywide Town Meeting on
January 12, 2002 and bring a friend, a co-worker, or a neighbor and make
our children’s and grandchildren’s future better.

MSD Employee Carries the Olympic Torch |

| Lois has always taken an active role at MSD (Metropolitan Sewer District) fund drives such as United Way and the Saint
Nicholas Brigade. Lois has walked for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for the past
11 years and is one of the top 50 contribution collectors in the southwest
region. This year Lois collected $1800 of which she credits the majority
to her fellow MSD employees.
Lois was also the subject of a 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Channel 5 News interview on December 12, 2001. The initial interview lasted for 1 hour and 20 minute and Lois said they made her feel very relaxed, "just like talking to people you see every day, like common folk". "Isn’t that really why mom is carrying the torch, because of the compassion she has for people", stated Linda Lewis, one of Lois’s children who nominated her to carry the torch. Lois carried the torch on Tuesday, December 18th in Mariemont (Wooster Pike, from Spring Street to Carlton Street) at 9:37 AM. Hamilton County and MSD congratulates Lois Smith on her many achievements.

| Building Inspections, and the Recorder’s Office for a combined total
of 7354 hours.As a show of appreciation, each volunteer
received a gift certificate. Hamilton County would like to thank these
individuals once again for their hard work!

Hamilton County Personnel Department has arranged for the Health Alliance
Mobile Mammography Unit to visit various County sites for five different
dates in January, 2002.
When: In Front of:
Women, 35 and older, may contact the Health Alliance Call Center at (513) 585-1000 to schedule an appointment. Please identify that you are participating through Hamilton County, and have available your health insurance plan name, date of birth, desired appointment time / location, and name of physician to whom the mammography results should be mailed. Remember, with the increased use of mammography screening, breast cancers are being detected earlier in their development when they are more treatable. The American Cancer Society suggests women aged 40-50 should have a mammography screening every 1-2 years, and women over 50 years of age should have one every year. More than 97% of women whose breast cancer is found and treated early will survive. So, please, call today for your appointment. If you have any questions about the County’s mammography program, please contact Kim Pennekamp at 946-4705 in the County Personnel Department.

| The Regional Ozone coalition is sponsoring free air quality
Workshops for area teachers. The Workshops are a great opportunity
to learn more about the air quality in our area from experts and
environmental educators. Topics will include air quality, smog and
ways to do your share for cleaner air and much more. Grade
appropriate curriculum and activities will be taught which can be
implemented in the classroom.
Wednesday February 27, Teacher grades k-6 or Thursday February 28, Teachers grades 7-12 The free workshops are open to teachers in grades k-12 in Boone, Butler, Campbell, Clermont, Hamilton, Kenton and Warren counties. Ball Park Project continues on target |

The project team also reported continued progress in terms of small business participation. To date, the committed small business participation for the Ball Park and related projects is 27.1% with 12.1% minority business participation and 3.4% woman-owned business participation. On the neighboring parking and infrastructure projects small business participation has been remarkable with 57.2% of contract dollars awarded going to small businesses and 17.5% minority business participation and 4.8% woman-owned business participation. The participation numbers for both projects compare very favorably to other large scale public projects in the region. |

Digital photos of the Ball Park site are updated each hour, giving citizens a "real time" view of the construction project. The Ball Park website also includes weekly "Play By Play" reports about the project and many other interesting and informative features.
