The Department of Public Works, Special Flood Hazard Area Division examines and reviews construction documents for compliance with flood damage, and storm drainage regulations. We conduct field investigation, respond to inquiries regarding building codes, and enforce the Flood Plain Management Rules and Regulations. We serve as a Variance Board Coordinator for all Public Works Appeals.
Flooding is the largest natural disaster threat to Ohio. Local and state floodplain management programs reduce future flood damages and protect the natural benefits of the floodplain.
Hamilton County has implemented a program to reduce future flood risks allowing the federal government to make flood insurance available through the National Flood Insurance Program.
Land use regulations, containing the minimum federal standards of the NFIP, are adopted and enforced by Hamilton County to protect lives and property from the peril of flooding.
