Jury InstructionsWhen both sides have presented their case to the judge and jury, the jury must render a verdict. Judges issue instructions to assist them in the deliberations, spelling out elements of offenses and other issues that must be satisfied. These instructions can be provided by the two sides in the case and there are a number of sources for jury instructions. Like many legal forms, they are customized to reflect the laws of particular jurisdictions. The Law Library has print jury instructions from various states and Federal court circuits that can be borrowed by our subscribers. Our LexisNexis subscription also provides access to jury instructions in electronic formats. The Ohio Jury Instructions (OJI) are written by a committee of the Ohio Judicial Conference and are available free via Casemaker for members of the Ohio State Bar Association. The Ohio State Bar Association has its own collection of jury instructions, also available through Casemaker. Attention: Ohio Jury Instruction has changed its format as of November 2008.
