Cincinnati Law Library Goes Wireless

Lawyers have wireless Internet access while at the Hamilton County Courthouse, thanks to a newly installed “wi-fi” network in the Cincinnati Law Library. The wireless network enables lawyers to continue to serve clients and colleagues remotely while at the Courthouse.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) October 28, 2004 -- Located on the 6th floor of the Courthouse at 1000 Main Street in Cincinnati, the 150 year old membership library offers an extensive print and electronic research collection. Previously, many of the Library’s electronic resources could only be accessed on a Library PC. Members of the Association can now use their own laptops and personal digital assistants (PDAs) to access the Library’s electronic databases, as well as law firm networks, Web sites, and e-mail. Unlike many wireless “hot spots”, Association members need not be subscribers to a wireless service company.

The network uses 802.11b wireless antennas to cover the Library’s reading rooms and lounge. Members can enjoy Internet access from behind a firewall that protects them from outside attacks. The Library also has 2 laptop antennas available for checkout in case a lawyer has not yet taken the wireless plunge or needs an antenna.

The new wireless network enables lawyers to stay in touch with clients and their firms while working at the Courthouse. It supplements the extensive print research collection that members already use, and makes access to the Library’s electronic collection easier.
