Circulation Policy

The Cincinnati Law Library Association provides print materials for the use of appointed and elected officials and its member lawyers and law firms.  Non-members may use materials in the Library but may not check out any materials.

Borrowing Materials

All materials in the Library are part of one of two groups:

  1. Circulating
    1. General Collection
These may be checked out for a period of 2 weeks.  General collection materials may be renewed for two additional two-week periods by telephoning the Library.  Materials may be renewed a third time, but the materials must be presented at the Library on the third renewal.

    2. Members may continue to keep materials by renewing them every 2 weeks, and presenting them for renewal every 3d renewal, unless they are recalled by the library.

All renewals will be subject to a pending request for the same materials.

    3. Continuing Legal Education Materials

    4. These may be checked out for 2 days.  They may be renewed once by phone.

All renewals will be subject to a pending request for the same materials.

  2. Non-Circulating
These materials are kept in the Library to ensure access.  They include reference materials and extra copies of highly utilized practice materials.

Overdue Fines

Overdue fines will begin to accrue on the day following the due date at the rate of $1 per business day until the fine reaches the replacement cost of the item.  Circulation privileges are suspended for any member or firm, when a member or members of the firm collectively owe fines of the following amounts or more:

Individual Member$10
Firm Membership 2-14 attorneys$25
Firm Membership 15-29 attorneys$50
Firm Membership 30-69 attorneys$75
Firm Membership 70 or more attorneys$100

Fines are not levied on weekends or on Library holidays.

Damaged and Lost Items

Members will be billed for the cost of replacing any library materials that are lost or are returned damaged.  Circulation privileges will be suspended until the replacement cost is paid.

Recall of Materials

Any circulating materials checked out of the Law Library may be recalled.  Items recalled must be returned within 2 business days.  Fines begin to accrue on recalled items if they are not returned within those 2 business days at a rate of $2 per day.

Overdue and Recall Communication

All members will be telephoned the day before any item is due back to the library, and will be advised that an item is due back and that fines will begin to accrue on the following day.  Members may renew the materials on the phone as described by this policy.  Additional communications may be made to remind members of accumulating fines.

Returning Materials

Materials borrowed from the Library may be returned at the Circulation desk during regular Library business hours or dropped in the Book Deposit box outside the main door of the library, next to the 6th floor elevator.

Approved by the Board of Trustees July 29, 2004.  Effective September 1, 2004
