Why is Hamilton County interested in
aircraft noise complaints?
 |
The County government wants to quantify
aircraft noise impacts because of the effects that aircraft noise may have
on future residential development and other land uses in some parts of the
County. In a recent social survey of residents living in frequently
overflown areas of western Hamilton County, many respondents reported
adverse affects of aircraft overflights, and were opposed to growth in
numbers of nighttime flight operations at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky
Airport.

 |
How often should I file a complaint?
 |
Many people file complaints about
aircraft noise only a small number of times, while others complain more
often. Individual differences in complaint rates are common. You should file
complaints about aircraft noise as often as you like. |
|
 |
What will Hamilton County do with my
complaint information?
 |
The County will forward your complaint,
along with others received each week, to the personnel at
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport responsible for investigating aircraft
noise complaints. The County will ask the Airport to determine how many
aircraft flew near your home shortly prior to your complaint. The County
will also ask the airport to supply the altitude and distance from your home
of these flights, whether nearby flights were arrivals or departures, which
runways the flights used, the estimated sound exposure levels created by
flights near your home, and so forth. |
|
 |
Should I also complain directly to the
airport?
 |
The Airport's telephone complaint number
for "aircraft reports" is 859.767.7022. It is reasonable to lodge your complaint both
through this website and directly with the airport so that the airport can
continue to track complaints independently of Hamilton County's requests. |
|
 |
Will the Airport pay more attention to
complaints forwarded by Hamilton County?
 |
The Airport has indicated that it wishes
to cooperate with the County in providing detailed information about its
aircraft operations. The County will request that the Airport respond
directly to your complaint, and that the airport send a copy of the
information that it provides to you to the County as well. The County will
track how promptly and completely the Airport provides the requested
information. |
|
 |
Does it really do any good to complain to
the Airport about aircraft noise?
 |
Yes. The County believes that more
detailed knowledge of the types of aircraft operations which lead to
complaints can lead to a better understanding of the effects of aircraft
noise on County residents, and possibly to improved aircraft noise
management strategies. Better understanding of the numbers, types, and times
of day of aircraft operations that lead to complaints could also affect
analyses of the orientations of additional runways that the Airport may
eventually build. |
|
 |
Will the County make my complaint
information public?
 |
Hamilton County is not interested in
individual complaint behavior, but only in population-level patterns of
complaints. The County will not make use of information that you provide for
any purpose other than increasing understanding of aircraft noise impacts on
the general public. |
