Manner: Sudden Death in Infancy 2002

The Hamilton County Coroner’s office designates deaths of sudden infant death syndrome type as Sudden Death in Infancy, pending better categorization of this mysterious entity’s pathophysiology and the definition of a specific anatomic or laboratory marker for it.  The diagnosis of SIDS at present is one of exclusion, requiring the absence of a discernible disease process or injury which could otherwise explain the death.

The number of such cases in Hamilton County remained nearly steady in 2002 going up from 8 to 9.
