Manner:  Suicide 2003

 

A suicide is a death resulting from a self-inflicted injury which was the result of an explicit or implicit purpose to end one’s life.  In 2003, 84 deaths in Hamilton County were ruled suicides, accounting for 8 percent of the deaths investigated by this office. A substantial decrease from the 111 suicides in 2002.

In 38 percent of such cases the suicidal means was a handgun.

In 27 of  the suicides or 29 percent, postmortem toxicology analysis revealed the presence of alcohol and/or a drug or drugs of abuse, down from 33  percent last year.
