Manner: Suicide 2004
A suicide is a death resulting from a self-inflicted injury which was the result of an explicit or implicit purpose to end one’s life. In 2004, 122 deaths in Hamilton County were ruled suicides, accounting for 12 percent of the deaths investigated by this office. A 68% increase from the 84 suicides in 2003. In 44 percent of such cases the suicidal means was a handgun up from 38 percent in 2003.. In 66 of the suicides or 50 percent, postmortem toxicology analysis revealed the presence of alcohol and/or a drug or drugs of abuse, way up from 29 percent last year.
