It is commonly known that a major problem for children of divorce is continued conflict between the parents over the custody and visitation of the children. The Court recognizes that if parents can mediate their conflicts and arrive at agreements about the children’s care, the damage to the children should be lessened. EIM is a mandatory program, requiring parents with custody disputes to attend mediation. The mediation is to occur early in the divorce process prior to parents getting locked into positions that can extend the conflicts and cause extensive Court involvement. There is no cost to parents for this program.
