A key anchor for Cincinnati's burgeoning riverfront
development, the Great American Ball Park celebrates both the past and the
future of Cincinnati's premier baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds.
Features of the new ball park include a grass playing field, open
concourses, a Reds Hall of Fame, and a majority of seats situated along
the baseline sides of the field. |
An exciting new attraction at the Great American Ball Park
will be the Reds Hall of Fame, located in the northwest corner of the ball
park. This facility will be one of the largest in baseball with room for a
wide variety of permanent and traveling exhibits. The Hall of Fame also
will house the official Reds retail store. Both facilities will be open
year-round. |
|
Just inside the ball park's main entrance is Crosley
Terrace, the design of which was inspired by the Red's former home,
Crosley Field. This landscaped grass area will be built at the same
elevations as those at old Crosley and house statues of Crosley-era greats
Ted Kluszewski, Ernie Lombardi, Joe Nuxhall and Frank Robinson. |
Architectural lighting will enhance the nighttime look of
the Great American Ball Park, truly making it a crown jewel on the Queen
City's riverfront.
|
|
The Red's administrative offices will be housed in
buildings running parallel to Second Street. These buildings will also
house concessions, restrooms and other conveniences. Between these
buildings is "the Gap." A design feature unique to the Great
American Ball Park, the Gap allows seating to wrap more closely around the
ball park's baselines providing spectators with better views, and giving
fans outside the park a great view straight down the first base line. |
Reminiscent of a favorite feature at the old Crosley
Field, the Sun/Moon Deck located in right field is a section of open,
uncovered seats that will create an atmosphere of an old-time ball park.
Fans seated near the Sun/Moon deck may also watch the warm-up action in
the Reds bullpen located immediately to the right of the deck.
|
|
Most main concourses at the new ball park will be more
than 40 feet wide - 20 feet wider than most Cinergy Field concourses. Fans
walking around the field level of the ball park will enjoy views of the
field. The number of concession areas also will increase by 60% as
compared to the current facilities at Cinergy, with one concession window
for every 190 fans.
|
Located in left field, Great American Ball
Park's electronic scoreboard will have an old-fashioned look with modern
functionality. A replica of Crosley Field's Longines clock will sit on top
of the scoreboard and a high-definition video board positioned to the
right of the scoreboard will show replays, graphics, photos and crowd
shots. Out-of-town scores will be displayed along the left field wall.
