A Year in the Making:
Thursday, October 4, 2001 marks the one year anniversary of the
official start of construction on Great American Ball Park.
Although demolition and site preparation began as early as July
2000, actual construction began in October with mass excavation of the
site. One year later, the
shell of the ball park has begun to take shape.
Just 550 days remain until Opening Day 2003. |

Concrete Work Continues: Crews
continue to make notable progress on the jobsite, particularly with the
ongoing concrete work. Late
this summer crews completed the last of the pile caps and the underground
foundation work. Wilhelm
Concrete Company is now working on the final pieces of the floodwall along
the southern perimeter of the site. Once
completed the entire work area will be enclosed in protective walls. Concrete Work in Progress o
Floors have been poured beneath the left
field seating structure. o
Elevated decks for parking, seating
structures and concourse areas continue to be poured daily. o
Precast concrete seating structures are
being installed along the third base line. o
The left field “field wall” has been
installed. This wall reaches
from the seating area to the playing surface and will house the
out-of-town scoreboard. |

Community
Displays: The final architectural
model display of the summer is scheduled for this Sunday, September 30, at
the Reds vs. Expos game. Weather
permitting, the model will be on display on the plaza level outside
Cinergy Field near gate 3 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. The traveling display remains on view at the
PNC/Chemed building downtown through Wednesday, October 3. |
