Great American Ball Park Update
Week of November 19

·         Groundwork for Crosley Terrace Underway: Work on the elevated concrete slab that will support Crosley Terrace is near completion. When Great American Ball Park opens, this area will serve fans as the main entry point into the park. Located at the corner of 2nd and Main streets, this “midway” of sorts will boast landscaped grass reminiscent of Crosley Field's sloped outfield, inscribed stone benches, special effects lighting and statues depicting Crosley era greats Joe Nuxhall, Ted Kluszewski, Ernie Lombardi, and Frank Robinson.

Fun Fact: The statues in Crosley Terrace will be erected to simulate a game-type situation.  Nuxhall will be featured on a pitcher's mound accurate to major league specifications of the Crosley era.  Located 60'-6" from the mound will be the batter's box with Lombardi at catcher.  Robinson will stand in at the plate, with   the “Big Klu” on deck.

·         SBE Numbers Remain Strong:  Project managers have released a report outlining the level of Small Business Enterprise participation in the Great American Ball Park project.  As of September 30, 2001, a total of 26.6% of all contracted work had been committed to small businesses, which includes any minority- and women-owned businesses that also are classified as small businesses.  A further breakdown shows that 12.0% of contracts went to minority-owned businesses and 3.8% to women-owned enterprises.

·         Safety Update:  Through September 30, only two lost work day incidents have been reported for the construction of Great American Ball Park and related projects.  Even with these incidents, the project lost work day incident rate stands at 1.2, well below the national average of 5.4.

·         Round Numbers:  Saturday, November 17, 2001 marks 500 days until Opening Day 2003.

·         Community Displays Continue:  Community displays continue to give the public a chance to see their ball park without driving to the river.  Several displays are scheduled for the upcoming weeks, including an appearance by the architectural model and renderings at the annual RedsFest activities.
