Play-By-Play

·        Batter’s Eye Plans Unveiled – The Cincinnati Reds have announced plans to erect an enclosed building as Great American Ball Park’s Batter’s eye.

Major League Baseball rules deem it necessary to have a neutral-colored backdrop in the outfield, directly behind the pitcher, that helps hitters see the baseball unmistakably as it leaves the pitcher’s hand. The Batter’s eye was created so backdrop movement or color would not distract hitters.

Officials for the Cincinnati Reds ensure fans that the Batter’s eye will serve a greater purpose for its fans. The front of the building will face the field. Glass tilted upward will give fans the opportunity to see out onto the field, and in turn keep any reflections from out of the hitter’s eyes. Inside, the building will feature three-tiered seating with bar and table accommodations, buffet food service, private rest rooms, central heating and air conditioning and year-round rental.

·        Brick Program Update – The month-long contest has become an overwhelming success throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. More than 1,000 entries were received within the first three days. Fans from as far as California have submitted entries to win an opportunity to be a part of the new ball park.

Through this drawing, Hamilton County will award 100 people the opportunity to immortalize themselves at the ball park by having their name or message inscribed on a brick that will be permanently paved into the ball park’s main concourse. Entries will be collected through April 1, and the winning entries will be drawn on Wednesday, April 3. The month-long drawing is open to the public and there is no charge to participate. Those who wish to participate in the contest this week, can do so at the following locations:

°         Tri-County Mall, 11700 Princeton Pike

°         Carew Tower Arcade, 441 Vine Street

·        Model Appearance – The Great American Ball Park architectural model will de on display at the Dugout Shop, 21 East Fifth Street, from March 11-25.
