Play-By-Play

Construction News: Sculptor Tom Tsuchiya continues to work on the statues that will be prominently displayed on Crosley Terrace. It was announced that Ted Kluszewski would be the first of the four bronze structures to be put on exhibit. His massive likeness will be on display Opening Day 2003. Joe Nuxhall will be honored in June, Frank Robinson in July and Ernie Lombardi in August.

At an offsite location, Tom has worked with welders to configure steel rebar as a foundation for the “Big Klu” statue. Once the steel was set in place, they sprayed polyurethane foam and shaped the structure into Kluszewski’s likeness. Tsuchiya is currently forming the exact details in clay. It will take Tsuchiya four months to complete each statue.

Fun Fact – Each statue will be five percent larger than the actual players they represent. This will make the figures appear proportional to the open setting of Crosley Terrace. Each statue will be placed on a platform two feet off of the ground.

Picture Day: On Tuesday November 12 from 3:00-4:00 p.m., the Great American Ball Park project team will host another media opportunity for still and video photographers. This month’s Picture Day will give photographers the chance to “shoot” the ball park from the southeastern portion of the outfield. Photographers will have the opportunity to capture the ongoing seat installation, testing of the field lighting system, and the newly installed turf.

As is with every Picture Day opportunity, note that proper attire is required. Participants must wear long pants and hard-soled shoes to proceed. Individuals wearing open-toed shoes or gym shoes will not be allowed onto the job site. Prior to entering, individuals are required to sign a waiver of liability and release. Everyone must wear a hard hat throughout the duration of his or her time in the construction zone. The Project Safety Manager reserves the right to deny entry to anyone not dressed properly for the work site.
