Play-By-Play

Construction News: Workers continue to make notable progress on all areas of Great American Ball Park. Following are some highlights:

bulletThe testing of the field lighting system continues. Crews can be seen perched in the light towers, manually aiming the lights towards designated spots on the field. The field is currently divided into grids by small orange flags. Each light is aimed at a specific grid on the field to illuminate every portion of the playing surface.

bulletThe installation of seats along the upper bowl is complete. Seat installers are now working on the lower bowl and outfield bleachers.

bulletCrews continue to work on the interior portions of the Machine Room brewpub.

Fun Fact – As reported in past issues of the Play By Play, the Machine Room will feature many interesting nuances. One main feature that promises to be a major attraction for the brewpub is the big red zamboni from the Riverfront Stadium era. Fans may recall the zamboni rolling onto the field to “squeegee” the playing surface.

bulletThe Cincinnati Reds clubhouse and training room facilities are beginning to take shape. Workers are installing tile in the players’ and coaches’ shower rooms.

Fun Fact – There are several innovative upgrades to the player locker room and training facilities from what the players and trainers had at Cinergy Field. Following are some interesting additions:

bulletEvery locker will have an outlet with Internet access.

bulletThe manager and coaches will have their own conference room.

bulletThe training facilities will include a large submersible treadmill designed to alleviate and rehabilitate injuries.
3… 2… 1… There are now 16 days left until the implosion of Cinergy Field. The structure is scheduled for implosion at 8:00 a.m. on December 29.
