WHAT:
|
Earlier this morning, workers at Great
American Ball Park began testing the field lighting system. Two sets of light towers will burn daily for 10-12 hours throughout November. This process began at 6:00 a.m. this morning with the light towers in right field and will proceed clockwise, one or two racks at a time, around the ball park. “Burning in” the lights ensures that each fixture is functional and assures each lamp’s performance. The metal halide lamps used at Great American Ball Park operate at very high temperatures and take several minutes to warm up. The ball park lights must be burned for 100 hours to ensure proper stability and reliability. The 1500-watt GE Ultra Sports Lights are similar to those that illuminate Jacobs Field. After each light is safely burned in, crews will aim the metal halide lamps at a computerized grid on the field. Each lamp will be aimed at a particular spot in an overlapping pattern. |
