Hamilton County to Offer the Public the Chance to
Own a Piece of History
Thousands of Cinergy Field Seats to be Auctioned
Cincinnati, June 10, 2000 - Whether you remember catching a fly ball, watching a spectacular touchdown or cheering on the Reds in the World Series, millions of fans have wonderful memories from Cinergy Field.
Hamilton County is giving the public the opportunity to purchase a piece of history and memories - actual seats from the stadium. At 1:00 p.m. on June 10th, 2,500 Cinergy Field original "blue" seats will be auctioned off to the general public.
The seats to be sold are part of the stadium that is converted each fall for Cincinnati Bengals football games. Auctioneer Gene Simplans will sell the seats in four, five and six-seat sections. The highest bidder sets the price for each group of seats.
"We are extremely excited to be able to make these seats available to the general public," said Bob Bedinghaus, chairman of the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners. "We believe anyone who spent special moments in that stadium will welcome the opportunity to own a piece of Cinergy Field."
People interested in buying seats must be present at Cinergy Field's parking lot #6 at the southeast corner of Broadway and Mehring Way the day of the auction. The auction will be a cash and carry auction only. Parking is available for a charge of $3.00. Interested parties are asked to enter the park at the southeast corner of Cinergy Field on Mehring way and follow signs to the service entrance onto Cinergy Field.
"This is one of the first major steps towards the end of an era for this stadium," said County Commissioner Tom Neyer. "We look forward to the day that the new Reds ballpark will grace Cincinnati's riverfront and to this fall when action will pack Paul Brown Stadium. Through this open auction, we will begin the process of saying goodbye to Cinergy Field."
