SECOND STREET CLOSURES

TO BEGIN MONDAY

Removal of Bus/Taxiway facilitates Ball Park construction

Cincinnati, May 18, 2000 - Next Monday, May 21, construction crews will begin the partial demolition of the former bus/taxiway bridge that once provided vehicular access to the Cinergy Field Plaza. To accommodate the construction, Second Street will be closed east of Main Street between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for the next three weeks.

Second Street traffic will be directed to use Main and Fifth streets as a detour route. Traffic bound for I-71 northbound, U.S. 50 eastbound (Columbia Parkway) and I-471 southbound can use entrance ramps from Fifth Street. Traffic bound for Pete Rose Way will be directed to turn right on Broadway from Fifth Street.

"We have reached the point in the construction of the Great American Ball Park that it is necessary to remove the remaining portions of the former bus/taxiway," said Arnie Rosenberg, ball park project director and senior vice president and director of projects for Parsons Brinckerhoff. "This removal will facilitate further work and movement of large equipment in and out of the ball park's construction zone."

Currently, only the portion of the bus/taxiway that crosses over Second Street will be removed. The remaining segment over Fort Washington Way will be removed at a later date.

Construction of Great American Ball Park, which is scheduled to begin in August, will be completed by Opening Day 2003.
