Career
Thompson was selected as Hamilton County Administrator on October 26, 2005. Thompson began his public service career in 1983, with the City of Madison, Wisconsin as an assistant in the Mayor's Office and as Operations Budget Manager for the city's Transportation Department. He was appointed County Administrator for Dunn County, Wisconsin in August 1990 where he served for ten years. In October 2000, Thompson was hired as County Administrator for LaCrosse County, Wisconsin. In November 2002, Thompson was selected as County Administrator for Jefferson County, Colorado.
Professional Associations
Thompson's professional associations include the American Society for Public Administration, ICMA and NACO. He currently serves as the Midwest Regional Vice President for the National Association of County Administrators.
Education
Thompson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire in 1981 and a Master's degree in Public Administration from The University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1983.
Personal
Thompson was born April 13, 1959 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He and his wife, Mary Kay, have five children (Amy, Becky, Danny, Steven and Gregory) and two grandchildren, Kaleb and Hailey.
