The Plan Examination Division of the DBI consists of architects and engineers, registered in the State of Ohio, who review the construction documents of residential and commercial projects. This review is performed in an effort to ensure that the proposed design complies with the provisions of the applicable building code.
Residential plans are examined for compliance with the 2006 Residential Code of Ohio and the 2007 Hamilton County Building Code and, under normal circumstances, are reviewed within six working days of submittal.
Commercial plans are currently examined for compliance with the 2007 Ohio Building Code with the most current updates and, under normal circumstances, are reviewed within 16 working days of submittal.
At the completion of a review, the plan examiner often sends the applicant a letter or a checklist with a request for additional information and/or correction(s) to be made to the documents or drawings. The applicant is responsible for submitting corrected documents to the plan examiner for re-review. Revisions are examined on Tuesdays and Fridays.
When the plan examiner determines that the documents comply with the code, they endorse them as "Approved" and forward them to the permit specialists, who then communicate with the applicant with further instructions.
