The following plan for the area of Liberty & Main St. was created to highlight an alternative to the current course of development. We feel that Over-the-Rhine should be developed more sustainably and equitably. We aim to create a dynamic neighborhood of mixed-income housing and mixed use development. We will do this by utilizing cost saving techniques of passive heating and cooling, using local products, and creating an environment that will spur economic revitalization. We propose to enact proactive measures that will also help revitalize the entire area by improving the perceived safety, relieving city congestion by promoting alternative means of transportation, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and reliving the overtaxed mixed sewers by enacting Storm-water Best Management Practices (BMP). Through this demonstration project we wish to signal to the greater community that redevelopment in Over-the-Rhine is possible, and that it can be done affordably and sustainably.
