Judge John H. Burlew

Judge Burlew was an active trial lawyer for twenty five years prior to assuming the bench in February 2001. He was also a member of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission for 14 years and chairman of the commission.
He has been an active member of the Cincinnati Bar Association throughout his entire career. He has held the office of President, Vice President and Executive Committee member. He was a member of several committees including vice chair of the Grievance Committee and delegate to the American Bar Association.
Judge Burlew’s practice focused primarily on criminal law, employment law, and professional licensure in the legal and medical professions. He was a frequent lecturer at Bar Association Seminars on ethics and substance abuse. He was a member of The Supreme Court Committee on Diversity and the Task Force on the Reforms of the Canons of Judicial Ethics.
Judge Burlew has published his expectations of the attorneys who appear before him. He demands that the lawyers and litigators give the court and each other the appropriate respect in their behavior and interaction with one another. He also recognizes the public, parties, and counsel are entitled to the same respect from the court.
